Distributed stable cluster head election (DSCHE) protocol for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks

Abstract: During the last decade, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have gained increasing attention for both the research community and actual users. The sensor nodes are mostly battery operated devices, the critical aspects to face concern how to reduce the energy consumption of nodes by using hierarchical clustered approach, so that the network lifetime and scalability can be extended. The key objective of this paper is to present a new distributed stable cluster head election (DSCHE) protocol to predict the network li… Show more

“…The energy saving schemes for homogeneous wireless sensor networks do not perform efficiently when applied to heterogeneous wireless sensor network. Thus, Energy efficient clustering protocols should be designed for the characteristic of heterogeneous wireless sensor networks [7]. The dynamic is changing the network parameters.…”

“…This protocol selects the cluster heads based on the maximum sum of energy residues for data transmission rather than the path with minimum energy consumption. The paper [23] discusses a mechanism for selecting the clusters similar to that discussed in [19], but for three-level heterogeneous WSNs. In [24], the bandwidth efficient heterogeneity aware cluster based data aggregation (BHCDA) protocol is discussed that uses intra and inter-cluster aggregation on the randomly distributed nodes with variable data generation rate while routing the data to sink.…”
