Distribution and Conservation Status of the Mountain Wetlands in the Romanian Carpathians

Abstract: Mountain wetland habitats are of particular importance because of their biodiversity, their aesthetic and recreational functions, and for providing services to humans (e.g., water for domestic use and livestock). At the same time, these practices can also have significant environment costs, including biodiversity loss and deterioration of water quality. For all their importance, these habitats are not well managed or conserved. The aim of the paper is to study the distribution of two of the most important and … Show more

“…With our study, we complement the knowledge of wetland plant species diversity with the riparian habitats of the study area. A. glutinosa and A. incana represent a common occurrence in the studied area, which is consistent with all previous observations [34][35][36]. However, the hybrid, with rare records in the study area and documented only in a limited number of years, appears to be considerably less widespread.…”

“…More recently, detailed distribution maps of several significant wetland communities in the same geographic region have been produced [36,37]. With our study, we complement the knowledge of wetland plant species diversity with the riparian habitats of the study area.…”

“…Prudent, however, is the recognition of the need for further comprehensive research to validate these findings. Additionally, the vegetation studied is prevalent across the entire Carpathian chain (Bita‐Nicolae, 2022 ), enhancing the potential relevance of the study's findings. Slope and exposure characteristics were recorded for every plot within each studied community (Table 1 ).…”
