“…Those species have previously been characterized as dominant taxa in various regions along the WAP including Bransfield Strait (Brinton and Townsend, 1991;Nordhausen, 1992;Piatkowski, 1985;Witek et al, 1985), Croker Passage (Lancraft et al, 2004), Gerlache Strait (Nordhausen, 1994a,b), the region extending from Anvers to Adelaide Island (Ross et al, 2008), and Marguerite Bay (Parker et al, 2011). Fishes constituted more than one-third of the taxa captured, but contributions to overall abundance were negligible, totaling less than 1% of the numbers captured.…”

“…In December-February the postlarvae are concentrated around Livingston Island while the larvae occur mostly in Gerlache and western Bransfield Strait. Decreased larval abundance in February-March could be due to mortality and advection out of Bransfield Strait but recirculation likely facilitates local recruitment within Gerlache Strait (Nordhausen, 1992). Recruitment could also result from individuals advected northeastward along the Antarctic Peninsula shelf (Kittel and Stepnik, 1983).…”

“…6B). These individuals most likely represent an inshore population described by Nordhausen (1992Nordhausen ( , 1994aNordhausen ( , 1994b) that spawns in Gerlache Strait during September-November with subsequent dispersal into southwest Bransfield Strait. “…Sample analyses. All euphausiids were identified and enumerated as previously described (Nordhausen 1992). Animals were classified according to stage; the term 'juveniles' is used for post-larval organisms in which the petasma or thelycum was not yet evident, and 'adults' are defined here as post-larval euphausiids for which sex could be determined by external morphology.…”
