Distribution and speciation of some carnivores ‐ 2

Abstract: Summary The distribution of the jackals and of the caracal in Africa is discussed and the distribution of the serval is also taken into consideration. Starting from his earlier thesis, that the initial separation of species of Canis and Lynx should have occurred in the beginning of the Tertiary, the author argues that the present distribution of the African species can be explained by this thesis.
