Distribution and taxonomy of the Grey voles (Mammalia, Rodentia, subgenus Microtus) in Bulgaria

Abstract: Grey voles (subgenus Microtus), widespread in Eurasia, may be important pests and could cause serious damage to agricultural grain fields. In Bulgaria two morphologically similar species are present (Microtus arvalis Pallas, 1778 and M. rossiaemeridionalis Ognev 1924), which are impossible to identify in the field. The arrangement of the families and statuses of the taxa follow the recent editions of the catalogues of the Palaearctic Coleoptera (volumes 4-8, Löbl & Smetana, 2007-2013 and volumes 1 and 3, Löbl & Löbl, 2016-2017. The names of authors who identified the species are given with their shortened first name and full surname at each family (in the part "List of taxa").…”
