Distribution of chitinases and characterization of two chitinolytic enzymes from one-year-old Korean Ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) roots

Abstract: We report the tissue-specific distribution of chitinolytic activity in Korean ginseng root and characterize two 31-kDa chitinolytic enzymes. These two enzymes (SBF1 and SBF2) were puri-

“…Chinese ginseng has a large output, low output value and weak international competitiveness, mainly occupying the low-end international market. By contrast, the Chinese ginseng industry's strong rival is South Korea, which has small output, high output value and strong international competitiveness, and usually occupies the high-end international market [45]. Although the export competitiveness of Chinese ginseng products has always been weaker than that of Korean ginseng products, in 2011, the international market share of Chinese ginseng products exceeded that of Korean ginseng products, and the competition became more and more fierce.…”

“…Ginseng, the root and rhizome of Panax ginseng (C. A. Meyer), has neuroprotective and cognitive‐enhancing functions in animals, healthy individuals and AD patients who have been widely reported (Lee et al, ; Lee et al, ; Heo et al, ). Proteins are one of the main components of ginseng (Ru et al ), and those with a molecular weight of 28, 26, 21, 20 and 35.2 kDa have been extracted and purified from P. ginseng (Yoon et al, ; Kim et al, ; Hwang et al, ; Moon et al, ; Ng and Wang, ). We also extracted the ginseng protein (GP) and purified the proteins of molecular weights of 66, 65, 25,15 and 8 kDa that have been described previously (Li et al, ), including the 15 kDa protein that is a superoxide dismutase (SOD), which was as a homodimer reported in our previous article (Li et al, ).…”
