“…In many studies, CCPP is used as standard index for the CaCO 3 precipitation [26,41,42]. For example, in the USA, a range for CCPP values of between 4 and 10 mg/L as CaCO 3 is the most common recommendation [38].…”

“…As noted by McNeill and Edwards, the AWWA manual on corrosion states, “In light of much empirical contradicting of the presumed connection between the LSI and corrosion, the practice should be abandoned.” Despite general criticisms offered by the water industry, most US water purveyors regularly monitor, document, and report the LSI on monthly operating reports, particularly when advanced processes are used in part or entirely for treatment and are deemed important for utility administrator decision‐making and regulatory monitoring purposes. Recent work by Cheng et al (2010) indicated that for water supplies in which desalted permeate was blended, the LSI was the more useful indicator as a surrogate for most corrosion indexes, with the exception of the aggressiveness index (AI) and the chloride‐to‐sulfate mass ratio (CSMR). Furthermore, the LSI was an effective measure of the corrosiveness of different ratios of blended supplies when permeate was integrated into the water supply portfolio.…”
