Distribution of intraocular pressure, central corneal thickness and vertical cup‐to‐disc ratio in a healthy Iranian population: the Yazd Eye Study

Abstract: Mean IOP, CCT and VCDR were 14.2 ± 2.5 mmHg, 543 ± 35 μm and 0.32 ± 0.14, respectively, in healthy Iranians that is different from other ethnicities. It seems advisable to pay attention to ethnicity for interpretation of each person's variables.

“…Therefore, as there is no comparison group for the Mongolian patients, their OPT thinner CCT finding is harder to compare [77]. Caucasian, Hispanic, Latino, Chinese, Filipino, Korean, Malay, and Iranian populations have thicker CCT compared to those listed above, as is illustrated in Table 1 [36,40,41,76,[78][79][80][81][82]. Overall, ethnicity should be considered when interpreting CCT, given the variations.…”

“…Although local studies have been conducted in different countries to determine the distribution of VCDR, 2 3 4 5 6 8 9 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 only one study has been performed for this purpose in Iran, 20 and therefore, there is a need for further research to provide more information on the distribution of VCDR. Our team set up a cohort study in people aged 40-64 years in Shahroud in recent years, which has provided researchers with valuable information on ocular indices.…”

“…[2225] Some studies investigating disc parameters only used vertical CDR for this reason. [26, 27] Average CDR was defined as the mean of vertical and horizontal CDR in this study. Since average CDR includes horizontal CDR which is not variable in terms of other ocular parameters, this could be the reason why our data only showed significance with vertical CDR, and not with average CDR in some analyses.…”
