Distribution patterns of Vibrionaceae abundance on the landing stages in coastal area: Understanding the influence of physicochemical variables by using multiple linear regression models and corrgram for matrix correlation

Abstract: The present work used multiple linear regression (MLR) models and corrgram to assess the importance of environmental parameters on diversity and abundance dynamics of Vibrio sp. in waters of few landing stages in the city of Douala (Cameroon). It was recorded in all the five selected stations, the presence of four species of Vibrio namely, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio fluvialis and Vibrio alginolyticus whose highest abundance reached 5.65, 6.26, 4.9 and 4.83 log CFU/100 ml respectively. Vib… Show more

“…These are S. enterica for the genus Salmonella and V. cholerae, V. alginolyticus, V. parahaemolyticus for the genus Vibrio. The results obtained are similar to those of [29], who worked in the surface waters of the city of Ntui and those of [30] in Douala, having analyzed drinking water, and isolated the pathogenic bacteria responsible for public health problems.…”

“…and coastal ones presenting as particularity their strong salinity to the detriment of fresh waters. This observation corroborates with that of [30], in the coastal zone in Cameroon where he concludes that V. alginolyticus does not develop in practically fresh waters but that it is brought by marine waters during the tides.…”

“…However, they are favourable for aquatic life (5 -9). However, the monthly fluctuations in this parameter would probably be due to the influence of precipitation, industrial and urban discharges (Tamsa Arfao et al, 2021b). The increase of the water pH significantly influences the abundance of Escherichia coli.…”

“…The physicochemical parameters considered in this study are temperature, pH, suspended solids, total dissolved solids, water color, electrical conductivity of water, dissolved oxygen, dissolved CO 2 , phosphates, ammonium ions, nitrates and nitrites. The analysis of these parameters was carried out according to the recommendations of APHA and Rodier and described by some of the authors (Rodier et al, 2009;APHA, 1998;Tamsa Arfao et al, 2021b).…”

“…In addition, the parameters likely to influence the abundance dynamics of these germs are temperature, pH and conductivity [10,11]. Other studies carried out in the city of Douala show that the presence of bacteria isolated from the Vibrio genus in these waters causes real public health problems, as they are responsible for gastroenterics [12]. Similarly, work carried out in the town of Mbalmayo shows the presence of stygobia species and high levels of suspended solids in these waters [13].…”
