Distributionand Diversity of Macro Algae Communities in the Ambon Bay

Abstract: Water conditions affected by natural and anthropogenic parameters such as sedimentation and solid waste disposal can influence the growth and distribution of macro algae. Sustainable management efforts can reduce damage on the Gulf coast of Ambon due to human activities and land clearing. This study was conducted in October 2008 using the transect method with 3 replicates in five locations i.e., Tantui, Air Salobar, Hative Besar, Halong, and Lateri. The interior and exterior waters of Ambon Bay contained diffe… Show more

“…Furthermore, the evenness index for Station I in the medium category was 0.54, and the low category in Station II was 0.37 (Figure 5). One of the factors that influence the growth of macroalgae is the water flow and type of substrate, where both factors determine the form of the holdfast; it occurs due to the process of macroalgae adaptation to the environment (Eriksson & Bergström, 2005;Jamilatun et al, 2020;Litaay, 2014). Although the type of substrate determines the variation of macro types of algae that grow, the same type of substrate tends to have the same diversity (Herlinawati et al, 2017).…”

“…The coastal city of Makassar has several functions including for the port of Pelni ships, inter-island traditional vessels, fisheries, sea transportation routes, and tourist attractions. These activities cause changes in land use and contribute for nutrients and other toxic wastes to the water; thus, eutrophication often occurs [4,5]. This can trigger an increase in biomass as well as degradation and death of marine producers such as macroalgae thus can threaten the lives of another marine biota.…”
