“…Compared with data reported a decade ago (98.8 AE 88.9 ng g À1 , Connell et al, 1998), the PAH levels in Deep Bay have increased by a factor of 2.6. Current PAH concentrations in surface sediment were similar to those found in the South China Sea (286 ng g À1 , Chen et al, 2006), Masan Bay, Korea (353 AE 252 ng g À1 , Khim et al, 1999), Xiamen Bay, China (367 AE 87 ng g À1 , Zhou et al, 2000) and the Pearl River estuary of South China (552 ng g À1 , Mai et al, 2001; 749 ng g À1 , Chen et al, 2006), and were higher than those found in Chesapeake Bay (52 ng g À1 , Forster and Wright, 1988), but were much lower than those found in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong (5277 AE 7904 ng g À1 , Hong et al, 1995) and in San Francisco Bay (7457 AE 6908 ng g À1 , Pereira et al, 1996).…”
