“…Although metabolic studies of both wild-type and mutant seedlings are required, the weak biological activity of 6-deoxocastasterone (Table IV) indicates that it is less likely to be converted to brassinolide by Ikb plants. Since 6-deoxocastasterone also shows a very low activity in the rice lamina inclination bioassay (Arima et al, 1984), a widely used BR assay system (Yokota and Mori, 1992), we have suggested that this compound is an inactivation product of BR metabolism rather than a precursor of brassinolide (Yokota et al, 1987). However, a recent study (Choi et al, 1996) showed that 6-deoxocastasterone was a precursor of castasterone and brassinolide in crown gall cells of C. roseus.…”

“…The molecular genetic analysis of cytochrome P450 (CYP) 85A1 and A2 in Arabidopsis has revealed that CS, as well as brassinolide, functions as an active BR to regulate growth and development in plants, particularly vegetative growing plants (Castle et al 2005;Kim et al 2005;Kwon et al 2005). It has been demonstrated previously that the immature seed of Phaseolus vulgaris contains CS and a number of uncharacterized stereoisomers of CS (Yokota et al 1987;Fujioka and Yokota 2003). Among the stereoisomers of CS, 2-epiCS has been recently characterized from Phaseolus seeds (Park et al 2009).…”

“…P. vulgaris also contains 6-deoxocastasterone (6-deoxoCS), CS and brassinolide (BL) as 24S-methyl-BRs. 5,6 Together with the presence of 24-methylene-cholesterol and 24S-methyl-cholesterol as biosynthetic precursors for 24-methylene-BRs and 24S-methyl-BRs, respectively, it is implied that two biosynthetic pathways to produce 24-methylene-and 24S-methyl-BRs exist in plants ( Fig. 1).…”
