The Colombian Orinoquia region is characterized by a high diversity of mammals, which is associated with complex ecosystems that include large extensions of Neotropical savannas (known locally as “Llanos Orientales”). Despite accelerated anthropogenic transformations in savanna ecosystems, the knowledge to design effective conservation strategies, such as the distribution of mammal assemblages, is still lacking for this region. In this paper, we evaluate if assemblages of medium and large mammals (i.e., species richness, relative abundance and the contribution of the different trophic guilds) are homogeneous across the Colombian Llanos by comparing three savanna ecosystems: floodplains savannas associated with an Andean river, aeolian floodplains savannas and highland savannas. After a sampling effort of 3,150 camera trap/days, we recorded 16 mammal species from the three savanna ecosystems. We compared the three assemblages and their constituent trophic guilds by ANOSIM and SIMPER non-parametric permutation tests. The three assemblages differed in composition, structure and trophic guilds. The floodplains savannas, associated to an Andean river, present the highest diversity, contrastingly, the high-plain associated with the Guyanese Shield presents the lowest diversity. This pattern could be explained due to the greatest floristic diversity, complex vegetation structure and more fertile soils present in the riparian forests of the floodplains savannas, despite being the most anthropogenically transformed. The carnivores were the most variable category and herbivores were the most abundant. Our results show that the diversity of medium and large mammals is heterogeneously distributed in the Colombian Llanos. Therefore, it is necessary to implement targeted conservation strategies according to the characteristics, local fragility of each ecosystem in the territory and each species response by local conditions.

Objetivo: El estudio de la abundancia y diversidad de Coleópteros en plantaciones de Eucalyptus globulus en la Comunidad Andina de Viñas-Pampas, Tayacaja, Huancavelica. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo, las 7 unidades de muestreo fueron distribuidas aleatoriamente, con transectos comprendidos por 50m x 20m, donde se evaluaron la cantidad de especies encontradas. Se evaluó la cantidad de insectos presentes en árboles con DAP menor a 10 cm. Posteriormente de procedió con la identificación taxonómica. Resultados: Se identificó 11 especies en el anexo de Viñas-Pampas, comprendiendo a las siguientes familias: Chrysomelidae (01), Curculionidae (05), Cerambycidae (01), Coccinellidae (01), Carabidae (02) y Lampyridae (01). En tanto la especie más abundante fue Gonipterus platensis (41.68%). Las especies más frecuentes son Gonipterus platensis (20.59%) y Gonipterus scutellatus (20.59%). Se reporta el Índice de Simpson (0.6797), Índice de Shannon - Wiener (1.4237) e Índice de Margalef (0.6420). Conclusiones: De acuerdo al Índice de Simpson se demostró que existe dominancia de algunas especies en este caso principalmente por Gonipterus platensis; los Índice de Shannon - Wiener e Índice de Margalef indican poca diversidad de especies.

Estudiamos la diversidad de mamíferos medianos y grandes en un área no protegida de la Orinoquia Colombiana durante tres años, empleando cámaras trampa en 72 estaciones de muestreo y haciendo recorridos por bosques y sabanas. Con un esfuerzo de 1789 días-cámara y 469.5 km recorridos se documentaron 31 especies de mamíferos (9 órdenes, 19 familias). Se registraron especies amenazadas como ocarro (Priodontes maximus), danta (Tapirus terrestris), pecarí de labio blanco (Tayassu pecari) y hormiguero gigante (Myrmecophaga tridactyla). Se registraron especies raras, como el perro vinagre (Speothos venaticus) y semiendémicas como el cachicamo sabanero (Dasypus sabanicola). Las especies mejor representadas a través del índice de abundancia relativa fueron el pecarí de collar (Pecari tajacu) y la zarigüeya (Didelphis marsupialis). Las especies registradas se enfrentan a diversas presiones, como cacería para subsistencia, especies invasoras y ganadería. Por lo tanto, los resultados sugieren que las áreas no protegidas son importantes para la conservación de los mamíferos en los Llanos Orientales de Colombia.
