Abstract: The macrofauna associated with Sargassum species is relatively well known on the coast of São Paulo, in studies conducted mainly in continental shore areas. On the other hand, investigations on the molluscan fauna associated with Sargassum are still rare in Brazil and there are no studies comparing the composition and variation of molluscan communities associated with this brown alga in relation to continental and oceanic islands faces. Thus, in this study, we evaluated the composition, richness, diversity and… Show more

“…Also, the average taxonomic distinctness (Δ+) and the variation in taxonomic distinctness (Λ+) were calculated (Clarke & Warwick, 1998, 2001), and pairwise Δ+ and Λ+ were tested for departures from expectation, referring to a master taxonomic list, which was constructed based on the following reference studies for molluscan fauna associated with biogenic habitats in coastal areas of São Paulo state: Montouchet (1979), Nalesso et al (1995), Morgado and Tanaka (2001), Leite et al (2009), Longo et al (2014), Fernandes (2014), Freitas (2015), Ferreira (2016), García et al (2016), and Longo et al (2019). A simulated distribution of a random subset (10,000 randomizations) from this list was constructed; funnel plots were then obtained using 95% confidence intervals for values of Δ+ and Λ+, as well as ellipse plots with 95% confidence intervals for pairwise combinations of Δ+ and Λ+ (Clarke & Warwick, 2001; Warwick & Clarke, 1998).…”

“…(Nybakken, 1993;Raffaelli e Hawkins, 1996;Pedrini, 2013).
