Diversity and physiological properties of root endophytic actinobacteria in native herbaceous plants of Korea

Abstract: Endophytic actinobacterial diversity in the native herbaceous plant species of Korea was analyzed using a culture-based approach. Sixty one actinobacterial strains were isolated, and assigned to 15 genera based on 16S rRNA gene analysis. The members of the genus Streptomyces comprised 45.9% of the total isolates, followed by Micromonospora (18.8%), Rhodococcus (6.6%), Microbispora (4.9%), and Micrococcus (4.9%). Other minor constituents included members of Microbacterium, Streptacidiphilus, Arthrobacter, Dietz… Show more

“…Type strains of top fifteen sequences with highest scores were retrieved from EzTaxon database (Kim et al, 2012) and multiple sequence alignment was performed using the Clustal W software packaged in MEGA 6.0 (Thompson et al, 1997). The evolutionary models were selected based on the lowest Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) scores and highest Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) values using MEGA 6.0 (Saitou and Nei, 1987).…”

“…(de Oliveira et al, 2010;. In this study, the majority of the 54 antagonistic strains belonged to Streptomyces.sp (de Oliveira et al, 2010;Kim et al, 2012;Mingma et al, 2014). Strain T3SB005 belonging to Streptomyces albidoflavus showed antagonistic activity against three human pathogens, and it strongly inhibited the growth of Salmonella enteritidis.…”

“…Endophytes acquired a specific ability that allows them to sustain under the living tissues without any detectable infectious symptoms to the host. Thus, they are of immense importance to the host due to their capability to produce a wide array of natural bioactive compounds (Sardi et al, 1992;Strobel and Daisy, 2003;Cao et al, 2005;Kim et al, 2012).…”
