Diversity Assessment of Tree Species in Sitio Dicasalarin, Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora, Philippines

Abstract: This paper provides the diversity assessment of the tree species in Sitio Dicasalarin, Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora including the endemism and ecological status. A total of 2239 individuals from 139 morphospecies, 87 genera and 46 families were recorded. A total of 48 Philippine endemic species and 2 Aurora Endemic species were found and at least 29 threatened species were listed either in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and Philippine List of Threatened Species. Results of the tree diversity showed … Show more

“…Where: E : Evenness index H' : Diversity index S : Total species found The Evenness index category followed the scale of Simpson's Evenness value (Coracero & Malabrigo Jr 2020) in which the value of 0.75-1.00 = extremely high species evenness; 0.50-0.74 = high species evenness; 0.25-0.49 = moderate species evenness; 0.15-0.24 = low species evenness; and 0.05-0.14 = Extremely low species evenness.…”

“…The instruments used in data collection were as follows: Procedural activities and formulas were obtained from references, such as previous studies by various researchers, specifically the study conducted [4]. Primary data gathering was through fieldwork activities, mapping and on-site observations, geotagging and tracking using locus map and GeoCam were used to document the activities within the research area.…”

“…The province is a part of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, the longest mountain range in the country, which is considered a highly important area in terms of valuable ecological resources distributed among its 68 protected areas [18,19]. Furthermore, there are very few studies about the plant composition and diversity in the province, which only cover the tree species in the municipalities of Baler [20] and Dipaculao [21], as well as the diversity of ferns in the municipalities of Maria Aurora [22] and Baler [23]. Hence, this study will pioneer the assessment of plants in the municipality of San Luis, which is beneficial in identifying the area's key biodiversity resources, such as the endemic, native, and threatened species, which is a crucial step in biodiversity conservation.…”
