Diversity ofSporocadaceae(pestalotioid fungi) fromRosain China

Abstract: Rosa (Rosaceae) is an important ornamental and medicinal plant genus worldwide, with several species being cultivated in China. Members of Sporocadaceae (pestalotioid fungi) are globally distributed and include endophytes, saprobes but also plant pathogens, infecting a broad range of host plants on which they can cause important plant diseases. Although several Sporocadaceae species were recorded to inhabit Rosa spp., the taxa occurring on Rosa remain largely unresolved. In this study, a total of 295 diseased … Show more

“…However, as mentioned in previous studies and as observed in the present study, the topologies of the Neopestalotiopsis phylogenetic trees obtained from all analyses ( ML , MP and BI ) were unstable and had low statistical support and short branch lengths ( Maharachchikumbura et al 2014 ; Solarte et al 2018 ; Tsai et al 2021 ; Fiorenza et al 2022 ; Peng et al 2022 ; Santos et al 2022 ; Zhang et al 2022 ). Nevertheless, most of the strains generated in this study formed several consistent clades in both single- and multi-locus analysis.…”

“…Apart from that, many pestalotiopsis-like fungal species have been identified as promising in terms of producing novel biologically active compounds ( Xie et al 2014 ; Deshmukh et al 2017 ). The highest diversity of pestalotiopsis-like fungi is recorded in tropical and subtropical countries ( Jiang et al 2022a ; Peng et al 2022 ; Xiong et al 2022 ; Seifollahi et al 2023 ; Sun et al 2023 ). While most pestalotiopsis-like taxa are associated with plants ( Maharachchikumbura et al 2011 ), investigations regarding their biodiversity and occurrence in unusual habitats are rare ( Liu et al 2021 ; Rajulu et al 2022 ).…”

“…While Cercospora brunfelsiicola has been reported on other host Brunfelsia uniflora within the genus and Pestalotiopsis oenotberae has been identified specifically on Oenothera laciniata , the restricted cultivation of these plants along with insufficient research on their associated fungi have resulted in few related studies ( Venkatasubbaiah et al 1991 ; Hidayat and Meeboon 2014 ). This discovery highlights potential interactions between these plant species and their fungal counterparts, emphasising the importance of uncommon herbaceous plants for fungal taxonomy alongside Rosaceae and silvicultural species like Populus ( Peng et al 2022 ; Lin et al 2022 ). Hence, collecting various specimens is crucial for studying and identifying the fungi of Apiospora , while also promoting fungal diversity.…”
