DMM: A dynamic memory mapping model for virtual machines

Abstract: Memory virtualization is an important part in the design of virtual machine monitors (VMM). In this paper, we proposed dynamic memory mapping (DMM) model, a mechanism that allows the VMM to change the mapping between a virtual machine's physical memory and the underlying hardware resource while the virtual machine is running. By utilizing DMM, the VMM can implement many novel memory management policies, such as Demand Paging, Swapping, Ballooning, Memory Sharing and Copy-On-Write, while preserving compatibilit… Show more

“…Zhao [8] proposed a memory prediction method and a memory allocation mechanism which are based on missing page rate curve. In literature [18] a dynamic memory reflection model which can combine para-virtualization, shadow page and hard-aided virtualization with virtual storage technology and memory sharing is proposed. Literature [19] brings a two-layer address space mechanism and constructs a virtual memory optimization frame of crossing multi-physical machines.…”

“…Internal memory mapping has long been used in non-spatial data processing (Chen et al 2010;Sani et al 2013). For spatial data, especially in mobile GIS, internal memory mapping can improve the rendering time efficiency.…”
