DMSO-based photonic crystal f iber sensor with enhanced sensitivity

Abstract: We construct a dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)-based photonic crystal fiber (PCF) temperature sensor with enhanced sensitivity. A solid-core PCF with large mode area is employed to supply the in-line Mach-Zehnder interference between the fundamental and cladding modes. Thus, temperature sensing can be realized because of the shift of interference spectrum at different temperatures. The DMSO solvent is infiltrated between the main sensor and a silica tube to increase the temperature sensitivity of the sensor. The obtai… Show more

“…Laser 450nm is used because the absorption spectra of zinc lie in this wavelength and that will be helpful in PCF sensing for zinc concentration change through the blood [8]. The change of concentration of zinc in blood make the refractive index of blood that cover PCF change this change in refractive index can be effect on the transmission of laser by the phase shifting signal through the PCF for the zinc in blood compare it with the results of phase shift of laser beam through PCF surround with air only [9,10].…”

“…The obtained results led to producing a sensor with high sensitivity compare to the traditional sensors as its compact and small size even its accuracy is high because small centimeters of photonic crystal fiber can be used as a sensor to measure any change in its wavelength shifting by applying xray and this device easy to use as its need only for laser passing and its made is so easy compared with others x-ray detectors designs and its price will be cheaper as its take only 2cm of its length and this open rood for the other researcher to used other photonic crystal fiber lengths to find the effect of sensitivity with the length of photonic crystal fiber [10][11][12][13][14][15]. The principle from this work is to make a sensor for x-ray emission to protect the human body from the radiation of x-ray as its risky for human health to protect for high doses of x-ray, many research was done before to study the effect of the xray on laser diode beam and from that work our idea and work started, comsol multiphysics is a computer program used to stimulate the practical situation for all elements and all effects.…”

“…Mach-Zehnder interferometer is a kind of very attractive device due to its extensive applications in photonics [16,17], biosensors [18,19], logical operations [20][21][22][23][24], optical communication [25,26], and memory device [27,28]. Hence, Mach-Zehnder interferometer has attracted a lot of interests from scientists and engineers.…”
