Do cultural differences affect users’ e‐learning adoption? A meta‐analysis

Abstract: The great advantages of e‐learning have been recognized, and efforts have been made to promote e‐learning adoption. Despite valuable research achievements from technology adoption, previous studies built their models from different perspectives. In this study, to offer a comprehensive research model on e‐learning adoption, we integrated these models (ie, TAM, TPB and IDT) and included culture as a moderator. Based on 45 relevant empirical research, this study conducted a meta‐analysis to explore key determinan… Show more

“…TAM postulated that the individuals’ perceived usefulness of technology precedes their attitudes towards them [ 20 , 21 ]. Several researchers confirmed that they found a significant relationship among these two constructs [ [80] , [81] , [82] , [83] ]. Arguably, there were instances where they found that individuals do not always have positive attitudes toward technologies, although they believe that they can enhance their performance if they use them.…”

“…By adopting Salmon's five-stage model, the present study neglected the association of learning model acceptance and career awareness. While eLearning acceptance findings indicated culture differences [78], future research should consider reporting the interactions between Asian students' personality profiles, acceptance toward eLearning technologies, and other affective outcomes. The results would benefit the evaluation of the effectiveness of adopting a specific pedagogy involving technology framework for sub-degree students.…”

“…As the world becomes more connected with the Internet and other technological advances, people are frequently in touch with foreign cultures. Such a multicultural environment is studied by mainly focusing on how cultural differences affect how people interact with new technologies, such as social media [Nascimento et al 2018], online music [Liu et al 2018, Mondelli et al 2018, and e-learning [Zhao et al 2021]. Nonetheless, even a single country may have different cultural aspects within it.…”
