“…While some of the extant literature has found that juvenile curfew statutes are ineffective at reducing offending (Males, 2000;McDowall et al, 2000;Reynolds et al, 2000), Kline (2011) and Hunt and À9.86** (0.00) À0.04** (0.00) À5.01** (0.00) À7.47** (0.00) Eastern À1.51** (0.00) À0.07** (0.00) À4.50** (0.00) 1.80** (0.00) Northeastern À10.98** (0.00) À0.04** (0.00) À3.32** (0.00) À9.39** (0.00) Northern À33.42** (0.00) À0.22** (0.00) À14.50** (0.00) À21.63** (0.00) Northwestern À21.05** (0.00) À0.06** (0.00) À9.53** (0.00) À13.23** (0.00) Southeastern À6.49** (000) À0.05** (000) À2.93** (000) À4.21** (000) Southwestern À22.51** (0.00) À0.14** (0.00) À8.49** (0.00) À16.11** (0.00) Western À3.78** (0.00) À0.04** (0.00) À4.46** (0.00) À0.51** (0.00) Time Weiner (1977) determined that these statutes do have some crime reduction potential. Given this discrepancy, the present article set out to determine whether Baltimore's change in curfew statutes had any net impact on criminal offending, at least as measured by the number of arrests.…”

“…Criminal activity shifted to the early afternoon hours, nearly doubling the proportion of criminal activity occurring during that time of the day (Hunt & Weiner, 1977). Likewise, Reynolds et al (2000) found a permanent increase in victimization during noncurfew hours following the implementation of a New Orleans juvenile curfew.…”

“…Although not stated explicitly, curfew laws attempt to reduce juveniles' opportunities to learn and commit illegal acts by decreasing the amount of time they spend without adult supervision and keeping them off the streets during nighttime hours (Reynolds, Seydlitz, & Jenkins, 2000). It is also presumed that the opportunity to be a victim of a crime is reduced by the restrictions of juvenile curfew laws.…”

“…Preliminary ®ndings suggest that there is very little noticeable effect of curfew on arrest statistics over a 12-year period (Adams, K., personal communication, 17 May, 2000). Reynolds, et al (2000) conducted an evaluation of the New Orleans curfew and determined that it was not effective in reducing either juvenile offending or victimization. The New Orleans curfew is one of the most restrictive juvenile curfew laws and is unique in that it provides no legal punishment to minors.…”

“…Fritsch and colleagues 23 used data from the Dallas Police Department (1995–1997) to examine the impact of the Dallas Anti-Gang Initiative—which included aggressive curfew enforcement in five targeted areas—on gang-related violence using a difference-in-means analytic method comparing these areas with four control areas. No covariates were examined.…”
