“…Furthermore, we could see a relationship between adiponectin and BMI, as in the case of Mobini et al [ 47 ], whereas in Mobini a (low-dose probiotics) a decrease in adiponectin levels and an increase in BMI is observed, however in Mobini b (high-dose probiotics) they obtained higher levels of adiponectin and a reduction in BMI. In contrast to the other adipokines, circulating concentrations of adiponectin concentrations decrease in obesity and diabetes, as weight reduction increases plasma adiponectin concentrations [ 95 ]. Probiotics also change leptin levels, more specifically the duration of the treatment and the gender such as in Sánchez et al, not only the group of females had better results, but all groups during the longer treatment obtained better results.…”

“…However, in diabetic patients only multistrain probiotic supplementation over 6 months ameliorates metabolic, cardiac, and inflammatory profiles without modifying leptin levels [44]. Probably, in humans administration of prebiotics and probiotics is more effective in association with lifestyle changes and future studies should aim to clarify the role of prebiotics/probiotics on leptin synthesis [45]. Additionally, the relationship between n-3 PUFA and leptin should be further investigated (Table 3).…”

“…Primary, APN function is energy homeostasis and is known as "starvation protein" [45]. Leptin and APN have opposite roles in energy metabolism: APN enhances glucose intake and prevents gluconeogenesis and fatty acid accumulation activating AMPK signaling.…”

“…Lately, a number of systematic reviews, a meta-analysis, and expert opinions have expressed criticism on the probiotics and prebiotics claimed effects and safety [130][131][132][133][134][135][136].…”
