Green governance is an emerging concept that has attracted the attention of academics and industry over the last decade. However, there is limited evidence on how it affects the sustainable performance of SMEs. Therefore, the aim of this research is to investigate the role of green governance on sustainable performance through the mediation of corporate social responsibility. It also intends to investigate the effect of green governance on sustainable performance through the mediation of green innovation. The current study employs a purpose-driven approach and a descriptive-correlation methodology. The statistical population of this research consists of employees and managers of small and medium-sized businesses in Iran. Despite the uncertainty, Cochran's formula enabled the selection of 365 individuals as the available sample. A questionnaire containing 18 closed questions was used to collect data. The results indicate that effective green governance can help formulate and implement social responsibility strategies. These strategies can have an influence on improving the sustainable performance of active companies and allow them to achieve economic, social, and environmental goals. Furthermore, green governance, a management model that prioritizes environmental preservation and sustainable development through the use of green innovation, significantly enhances the sustainable performance of businesses. Finally, green governance as a model of management that pays attention to the preservation of the environment and sustainable development, has a significant influence on improving the sustainable performance of businesses by using green innovation.
