Does Inward Foreign Direct Investment Lead Export Performance in Pakistan?

Abstract: This study is a pioneering attempt to investigate the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on export performance in Pakistan by using the long annual time series data from the period 1974–2012 and by using more rigorous econometric techniques. “…The models were generalised by Markusen (1983) and Wong (1986), who determined conditions under which Heckscher-Ohlin-Samuelson framework implies complementarity or substitutability of factor movement and international trade. The theoretical models based on the Heckscher-Ohlin-Samuelson framework are among the most commonly used models as a basis of specifying the empirical models of the impact of foreign direct investment on host country exports (Camarero & Tamarit, 2004;Dash & Sharma, 2011;Goldberg & Klein, 1997;Jawaid, Raza, Mustafa, & Karim, 2016).…”

“…Davaakhuu et al (2014) presented an analysis related to patterns and trends of FDI and also explored the relationship between FDI and GDP in Mongolia. Jawaid et al (2016) investigated the impact of FDI on performance of export in Pakistan and result showed a positive impact of FDI on exports. Ekanayake and Chatrna (2010) explored the effects of ODA on the economic growth of developing nations with the hypothesis that ODA can endorse growth in developing nations but found the same to have mixed effects.…”
