Dolichopodidae of riverbeds and springs in Croatia with an updated checklist of Croatia (Diptera)

Abstract: Several invertebrate surveys in Croatia conducted between 2005 and 2014 and including; e.g., Plitvice Lakes, produced 123 bycatch samples of Dolichopodidae (Diptera) from 68 sampling sites collected at 36 localities in seven counties. Seventy-seven were retrieved from emergence traps, six from pan traps and 40 were collected with sweep net and/or aspirator. They contained 420 dolichopodid flies that belonged to 64 species in 22 genera. Four species, Campsicnemus umbripennis, Hercostomus chetifer, Liancalus vir… Show more

“…Those characteristics favour many endemic, rare and interesting species belonging to various animal groups, e.g. water mites (for example Pešić et al, 2019;Pozojević et al, 2020;Di Sabatino et al, 2003), crustaceans (for example Glazer, 1998;Sidorov et al, 2012Sidorov et al, , 2018, aquatic insects (for example Graf et al, 2012;Ivković et al, 2020;Maiolini et al, 2011;Pollet & Ivković, 2018;Waringer et al, 2009) and others. There is a great level of endemism in Trichoptera as well, and there are genera and species which can be found only in springs or in upper stream reaches (Cianficconi et al, 1998;Hinić et al 2020;Kučinić et al 2015a;Malicky, 2020;Marinković-Gospodnetić 1971Oláh, 2010;Previšić et al 2014aPrevišić et al , 2014bVitecek et al 2015Vitecek et al , 2020Waringer et al, 2009Waringer et al, , 2013Waringer et al, , 2015Waringer et al, , 2016.…”

“…Systenus is presented with seven European species. Until now, two species have been known for the Balkan Peninsula; they were listed from Croatia: Kechev & Ivanova (2015a), Pollet & Ivković (2018) and Drake (2018) listed Systenus bipartitus (Loew, 1850), while Naglis (2017) described Systenus bartaki from Gornji Muć Village, near Split.…”
