Donor miR‐196a‐2 polymorphism is associated with hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence after liver transplantation in a Han Chinese population

Abstract: Recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the leading causes of death after liver transplantation (LT). We aim to evaluate the association of donor and recipient single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with the risk of HCC recurrence after LT. A total of 155 adult patients who underwent primary LT for HCC were enrolled. Ten SNPs associated with HCC susceptibility were genotyped. Patients who received donor livers with the rs11614913 homozygous CC variant presented significantly higher recurrence ra… Show more

“…The detailed information for the Lv system will be provided on request. The mice were injected with 100 μL of virus via the tail vein according to our previous procedure . The infection efficiency was evaluated by both detection of bioluminescence using an IVIS Lumina LT Series IIIimager (Caliper Life Sciences) and crtc2 expression in the liver using real‐time polymerase chain reaction (PCR).…”

“…The miR-196 family consists of miR-196a and miR-196b with shared regulatory capacity (3). Studies have shown that miR-196a and miR-196b exert various functions in cancer carcinogenesis and development (4)(5)(6)(7). miR-196a-2 polymorphism is associated with susceptibility to HCC and recurrence after liver transplantation (4,8).…”

“…Studies have shown that miR-196a and miR-196b exert various functions in cancer carcinogenesis and development (4)(5)(6)(7). miR-196a-2 polymorphism is associated with susceptibility to HCC and recurrence after liver transplantation (4,8). A recent study found that upregulation of miR-196b is indicative of liver metastasis in patients with colorectal cancer (9).…”

“…It was recently reported that miR-196a polymorphism is associated with HCC cancer risk (38) and recurrence (39). Therefore, we reasoned that miR-196a might be highly expressed in HCC cells and may serve as a novel target for sensing HCC cells.…”
