Abstract:Seven oliguric patients with severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome following gonadotrophin treatment for in-vitro fertilization or gamete intra-Fallopian transfer, were treated with low doses of dopamine by peripheral infusion. Five patients were pregnant. The rationale for this therapeutic approach was to increase renal blood flow and glomerular filtration. In addition to dopamine, fluid intake was restricted to 500 ml/day and a protein and salt-rich diet was provided in order to increase serum osmolarity.… Show more
“…Improvements in urinary output and overall symptoms were reported in seven critically ill patients after they received an intravenous dopamine infusion (Ferraretti et al, 1992). Moreover, the administration of docarpamine (an oral dopamine prodrug) in 27 hospitalized patients gradually improved urinary output and ascites (Tsunoda et al, 2003).…”

“…Dopamine and docarpamine have also been used in patients with OHSS with positive results [51,52]. The aim of treatment is to increase renal blood flow and glomerular filtration [53].…”
“…If tolerance of high oral doses of D2-ags becomes an issue, alternative vaginal or IV administration routes could be explored. Indeed, this latter strategy is supported by previous studies performed two decades ago (34) whereby continuous IV administration of dopamine was used to increase renal blood flow and glomerular filtration in five OHSS patients.…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
