Dopamine wide range detection sensor based on modified Co3O4 nanowires electrode

Abstract: Ultra-thin cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanowires grown on gold coated glass substrates by the hydrothermal chemical deposition and have been used as a wide range dopamine potentiometric sensor. An anionic surfactant (sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate) was used to achieve assisted growth procedure. Moreover, a polymeric membrane containing polyvinyl chloride as plasticized polymer, β-cyclodextrin as ionophore, and potassium tetrakis (4-chlorophenyl) borate as ionic additive were immobilized on the Co3O4 nanostructures th… Show more

“…Particularly, Co 3 O 4 is an ionic semiconductor with positively polar termination having two Co 2+ , two Co 3+ , and four O 2-ions and negatively polar termination with two Co 3+ and four O 2-ions. [25] The diversity of the polar sites [26] will help to easily detect the charges. Furthermore, Co 3 properties for many applications [33].…”

“…Some metal oxide like TiO2 55 and Cd-sulfide nanoarticles have very strong catalytic property 56 which can be highly useful for fabricating cost-effective photoelectrodes used in the production of hydrogen from water splitting 57 . The nano-size structures in photovoltaic 58,59 cells increase the area of exposure of conducting surfaces which enhances the collection of solar energy. The use of mesoporous nanostructures 60 like quantum dots, carbon nanotubes and fullerenes in solar cells makes them cheaper, lighter and increases their efficiency, electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, durability and corrosion resistance [61][62][63] .…”

“…However, the lower detection limit needs to be improved because the concentration of dopamine in biological systems is in the range of 10 −8 to 10 −6 M. Moreover, the effect of the organic additives on modifying the morphology and their associated effect on the sensing and even on the electronic structures, as demonstrated in paper I, II and III, it was appealing to seek a more sensitive sensor. In the present paper, 103 an anionic SDBS surfactant was used to achieve assisted growth procedure. After the SDBS-doped Co3O4 nanowires were successfully grown on Au coated glass substrates by the ACG method, the same polymeric membrane used in paper I was used here as well.…”
