Doppler ultrasonography criteria of superior mesenteric artery stenosis

Abstract: Purpose The techniques mostly used for the diagnosis of superior mesenteric artery (SMA) stenosis are computed tomography angiography (CTA), and magnetic resonance angiography. We aimed to evaluate color‐coded Doppler Ultrasonography (CDUS) for the detection of SMA stenoses and to determine Doppler criteria. Methods We identified retrospectively 65 patients with CTA images of SMA stenosis and examined them with CDUS for the Doppler measurement of SMA peak systolic flow velocity (PSV), end‐diastolic velocity (E… Show more

“…[15] Employing electronic devices and 2-dimensional ultrasound technology, Doppler ultrasonography visualizes blood flow in tissue, providing details about lymph node size, shape, location, and blood flow. [16] Furthermore, Doppler ultrasound finds applications in examining other tissues, including the heart and blood vessels, for disease diagnosis and treatment planning. This study explored the efficacy and role of Doppler ultrasound in diagnosing cervical lymph nodes in patients with laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers.…”

“…13 Elevated SMA peak velocities >275 cm/s are highly suggestive of stenosis. 18,93 Mesenteric ischemia after cardiac surgery is a complication with high morbidity and mortality. 96 Guidelines from the American Society of Echocardiography in 2020 on the use of TEE to assist for surgical decision-making mentioned that TEE should be used to identify the presence of the dissection flap down to the subdiaphragmatic descending aorta.…”
