Double adaptive power allocation strategy in electric vehicles with battery/supercapacitor hybrid energy storage system

Abstract: Summary This paper proposes a new energy management strategy (EMS) for electric vehicles (EVs) with battery/supercapacitor hybrid energy storage systems (HESS). Firstly, the battery/supercapacitor HESS configuration and obtaining the load current from the driving cycle are comprehensively explained. Secondly, fixed and adaptive frequency‐based (AFB) EMS are discussed in detail. In the proposed method, the current demanded by the load is separated into low and high‐frequency components with the help of an adapt… Show more

“…Also, the use of high-power density and current capability power sources such as supercapacitor and fuel cells with an appropriate energy management strategy improves the DR, acceleration and gradeability by minimizing the EC and Mv. This can be justified by higher current capability, powertrain and charging efficiency of super-capacitor and fuel cells [247,248]. Further, the use of control strategies like PWM, pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) and bang-bang type current control with a super-capacitor and fuel cell improves the DR of EV by minimising the power converter losses [249,250].…”

“…As seen in Figure 13, with this method, active and reactive power flow can be controlled separately by splitting the grid current into frequency components with LPF and HPF. 79 In the study of Çorapsız and Kahveci, 80 an adaptive filter is proposed in which the cut-off frequency is determined according to the load current and the supercapacitor SoC. In addition, the battery current has been adapted according to the amplitude of the supercapacitor SoC.…”
