Abstract: Employed women persistently suffer in mental health despite more family-friendly workplaces. The job demand-control theory argues that employed women’s mental health depends on their job autonomy, while sociological research on the gender division of household labor locates the cause in how much they are expected by husbands to contribute to housework. “…In addition, female employees in higher occupational groups might have more bargaining resources in the division of housework (Kan & He, 2018 ) and be able to pay for the childcare and housework services, thereby having more options and abilities to juggle work and life when using work autonomy. However, a stream of the latest research indicates that it might be job quality rather than job quantity that is important for workers’ mental health (Wang et al 2022a ; Wang & Li, 2022 ). Specifically, job quality and the discrepancy between actual and preferred working hours (termed as working time mismatches) can be more important in predicting workers’ mental health status than actual working hours (Golden & Gebreselassie, 2007 ; Kamerāde et al, 2019 ).…”

“…Respondents' propensity to report IPV is associated with their gender ideology. A more patriarchal ideology holds that men are more capable than women and therefore men should predominate in roles of leadership and authority [35][36][37] . Consequently, men and women who hold a patriarchal gender ideology are more likely to conceal having experienced IPV: men due to fear of stigma 38 , while women due to their desire to protect their partner 39,40 .…”
