Doxercalciferol Alleviates Bone Deteriorations and Cartilage Degeneration in Aging Mice

Abstract: Background Age-related bone deteriorations are the common endocrine disorders in the elderly population, leading to an increased risk of fractures. Therefore, effective treatment strategies provide a way to prevent bone loss and improve the quality of life in the elderly population. The present study aimed to investigate the anti-osteoporotic effects of doxercalciferol (DOX) in aging mice. Methods Bone metabolism-related markers were measured by ELISA assay. The expression of bone formation and resorption-rela… Show more

“…In terms of cells, elimination of OCPs had no significant effect on age-related bone loss ( Kim et al, 2019 ) whereas macrophages promoted osteoclast production during aging ( Kanagasabapathy et al, 2020 ). Furthermore, doxercalferol (DOX) ( Li J. et al, 2020 ), Cnr1 and Cnr2 receptors ( Sophocleous et al, 2017 ), cadherin-13 ( Yang et al, 2020 ), GD3 Synthase ( Yo et al, 2019 ), and Kynurenine ( Refaey et al, 2017 ) all have a non-negligible role in aging osteoblasts.…”

“…Osteoporosis, muscle weakness, secondary hyperparathyroidism, and calcium malabsorption are symptoms. 3,4 Vitamin D is crucial for boosting calcium absorption and healthy bone mineralization. Rickets in newborns and young children and osteomalacia in adults are both the results of severe vitamin D insufficiency.…”
