Doxorubicin and Crocin Co-delivery by Polymeric Nanoparticles for Enhanced Anticancer Potential In Vitro and In Vivo

Abstract: Development of a biodegradable nanoplatform poly-(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) for co-delivery of two drugs is hugely imperative and beneficial in anticancer therapeutics. In this study, co-delivery of a natural phytoconstituent, crocin (carotenoid), and a commonly prescribed drug, doxorubicin, was attempted using a nanoparticulate platform in the form of PLGA nanoparticles. Doxorubicin was chemically conjugated, while crocin was encapsulated physically in prepared PLGA nanoparticles (PDCR NPs). Prepared NP… Show more

“…Drug loading efficiency is experimentally quantified as described previously. 26 Drug-loaded samples were centrifuged using a centrifuge (BR Biochem) at 13 000 rpm for 30 minutes. Before that, a standard calibration curve was plotted with different concentrations (0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1 mg mL −1 ) of cisplatin to identify the unknown concentrations in the supernatant.…”
