Draft Genome Sequence of Bacillus velezensis BZR 336g, a Plant Growth-Promoting Antifungal Biocontrol Agent Isolated from Winter Wheat

Abstract: Bacillus velezensis strain BZR 336g is a plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium isolated from a winter wheat rhizoplane from the Krasnodar region in Russia. In this study, we report the genome, including genes with known phenotypic function, i.e., the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites with fungicidal and plant growth-promoting activities. We sequenced and analyzed the complete BZR 336g genome using two different DNA preparation methods to help us better understand the origin of the antimicrobial and antifun… Show more

“…They have been shown to enhance plant growth through a combination of mechanisms [ 15 , 16 ], by activating ISR in the plant against both root and foliar pathogens, by increasing abiotic stress tolerance [ 17 ], and by showing biocontrol properties [ 18 ]. Elicitation of ISR by Bacillus and its metabolites has been demonstrated on a variety of crops to defend against pathogen attack in both the greenhouse and the field [ 19 , 20 ]. It can also produce numerous antifungal compounds [ 21 ], such as lipopeptides [ 22 ], bacillomycin [ 23 ], fengycin [ 24 ], surfactin [ 25 ], bacillibactin [ 26 ], and bacteriocin [ 27 ].…”

“…In the research we used two initial strains of Bacillus isolated from the rhizosphere of winter wheat in Krasnodar (Kuban Region, Krylovsk district 46 Through genome sequencing of these strains, we identified their taxonomic position. Comparative bioinformation analysis resulted in the collection and deposition of two genomes into NCBI database: B. velezensis BZR 336 g_n (Assembly: GCA_009683125.1, GenBank: NZ_WKKU00000000.1) and B. velezensis BZR 517_n (Assembly: GCA_009683155).1, GenBank: NZ_WKKV00000000.1) [21,22].…”

“…B. velezensis showed great antagonist activity in the south of Russia [18], as well as in the extreme weather of Western Siberia [19,20]. These microorganisms promote plant growth [21], making them excellent candidates for the development of the new bioproducts.…”

“…The competitiveness and profitability of the livestock industry directly depends on the volume and quality of milk that meets all modern global criteria for its safety. Improving the beneficial properties of milk, its natural value for human nutrition, minimizing losses caused by an insufficiently thought-out technology of keeping, feeding, and milking of animals can be attributed to the most urgent aspects that make it possible to ensure the food security of the Russian Federation considering the ambiguous political and economic situation caused by sanctions from foreign countries and completely cover the population's need for this useful product [1][2][3][4].…”
