Draft Genome Sequence of Cyanobacterium sp. Strain IPPAS B-1200 with a Unique Fatty Acid Composition

Abstract: Here, we report the draft genome of Cyanobacterium sp. IPPAS strain B-1200, isolated from Lake Balkhash, Kazakhstan, and characterized by the unique fatty acid composition of its membrane lipids, which are enriched with myristic and myristoleic acids. The approximate genome size is 3.4 Mb, and the predicted number of coding sequences is 3,119.

“…A unicellular alkaliphilic cyanobacterium with a wide temperature optimum (24-34 • C); contains many short saturated and monounsaturated C14 and C16 FAs, which can be used for biofuels [176]; draft genome sequenced [205]; possesses a unique desaturase, DesC, that nonspecifically introduces double bonds in C14, C16, and C18 FAs [206].…”

“…The draft genomes of five cyanobacterial strains from the collection were sequenced and analyzed [ 205 , 208 , 213 , 214 ]. Information on the FA composition and the set of desaturases revealed from genomic data was further used to develop the biochemical classification system for cyanobacteria [ 215 ].…”

“…As it is difficult to find an alternative second culture collection willing to accept a new deposit and ensure the availability of subcultures worldwide, as required for validation of the name under the ICNP, we have preserved a subculture of strain PCC 7202, as described in Methods, enabling the valid publication of the names Cyanobacterium and Cyanobacterium stanieri under Cyanobacterium sp. strain IPPAS B-1200 Salt Lake Balkhash, Kazakhstan Genome: LWHC00000000 KM502966; species 5.1.7.6B, unnamed [42,43] Uncultured bacterium clone SINH445…”
