Draft Genome Sequence of Leuconostoc mesenteroides 406 Isolated from the Traditional Fermented Mare Milk Airag in Tuv Aimag, Mongolia

Abstract: Leuconostoc mesenteroides 406 was isolated from the traditional fermented mare milk airag in Tuv Aimag, Mongolia. This strain produces an antilisterial bacteriocin. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of this organism.

“…3 ). These findings are consistent with previous research, which found that the ANI value between the target L. lactis strain EFEL005 and the type strain L. lactis KCTC 3528 T was greater than 96 % [36] . The species differences could be attributed to host-specific strain diversity and niche adaption.…”

“…According to unpublished data, the genomes of L. lactis 1.2.28 (GCA_018993775.1), L. mesenteroides SRCM 103,356 (GCA_004102585.1) had 1.7 Mb and 2.0 Mb genomes, respectively, with 43.4 % and 37.7 % GC content and 1724 and 1991 total genes ( Table 1 ). Additionally, L. mesenteroides 406 contains a 2.0 Mb chromosome with a GC content of 37.7 % and a total number of genes of 2062 [36] , which corroborate our findings.

“…Additionally, they found that milk has not been a core object of study for many research projects outside of East Africa. Indeed, many contemporary studies of milk in Inner Asia are led by the biological and nutritional sciences (Morita et al 2016;Rich-Edwards et al 2011;Tsegmed et al 2007;Watanabe et al 2008). Heritage livestock breeds are largely adapted to local climate conditions such as the high cold deserts or more extreme arid conditions in the Middle East, and yields reflect local availability of forage and water.…”

“…Then, we compared the draft genome of 213M0 with that of L. mesenteroides 406 (accession no. BCMP01000000), which was isolated from another airag in Tuv Aimag, Mongolia ( 3 , 4 ). Of the 1,995 protein-coding genes, 1,754 (88%) were shared by the both strains.…”
