Draft Genome Sequence of the Principal Etiological Agent of Farmer's Lung Disease, Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula

Abstract: Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula is the main cause of farmer’s lung disease. The development of recombinant antigens to standardize the serodiagnosis of the disease requires knowledge of the S. rectivirgula genome. We sequenced the genome of an environmental strain, S. rectivirgula DSM 43113. A total of 3,221 proteins were found to be encoded in a short 3.9-Mb genome.

“…Chemokines and cytokines also seem to play a role in macrophage activation, granuloma formation, and fibrosis. Studies suggest a genetic link to the major histocompatibility complex because certain major histocompatibility complex haplotypes increase a person's susceptibility to developing HP.…”

“…Saccharopolyspora spp. such as Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula has been reported to be associated with human infection (Barrera et al, 2014). A number of species have been reported with the ability to produce antibacterials (Oliynyk et al, 2007;Yuan et al, 2008) and insecticides (Waldron et al, 2001).…”

“…More recently Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula and Eurotium amstelodami have been specifically identified associated with compost workers and subsequently associated with serum antibodies in the blood of these workers especially during hay making season and thus as causative agents of FL [26,27]. The genome sequence for these antigens has been shown [28].…”
