“…Gas-rich sediments have been documented on most continental shelf margins worldwide (Fleischer et al, 2001), with these accumulations predominantly representing thermogenically or biogenically generated shallow gas or gas hydrate deposits (Floodgate and Judd, 1992;Kvenvolden, 1993;Minshull et al, 2020;Schoell, 1988;Stopler et al, 2014). The North Viking Graben (NVG) is part of the mature North Sea Basin petroleum province and designated as a major carbon storage basin for NW Europe. It has been extensively drilled over five decades with an abundance of well and seismic data in the public domain. As such it serves as an excellent setting to demonstrate the efficacy of a reflection seismic data led approach to predicting subsurface temperatures using a state-of-the-art, fullwaveform inversion velocity model covering the entire NVG. In a forward modelling approach, an empirical velocity to thermal conductivity transform is used in conjunction with predefined heatflow to predict subsurface temperature. The predefined heatflow parameters are set based on the range of values from previous studies in the area. Abundant well data with bottom hole temperature (BHT) records provide calibration of results. In the second step of inverse modelling, BHTs and the velocity derived thermal conductivity are used to derive heat flow based on a 1D steady-state approximation of Fourier's law. In this way, heatflow is estimated over the 12,000 km 2 model area at a km scale (lateral) resolution, highlighting lateral variability in comparison with the traditional point-based heatflow data sets. This heatflow is used to condition a final iterative loop of forward modelling to produce a temperature model that is best representative of the subsurface temperature.Calibration against 139 exploration wells indicate that the predicted temperatures are on average 0.6℃ warmer than the recorded values. BHT for the recently completed Northern Lights carbon sequestration 31/5-7 (Eos) modelled to be 97℃, which is 6℃ below the recorded BHT. This highlights the applicability of this workflow not only towards enhancing petroleum systems modelling work but also for use in the energy transition and for fundamental scientific purposes.

ABSTRACT. The global reserves of natural gas hydrates are extremely abundant, but hydrate reservoirs are usually clayey silt hydrate reservoirs with low strength, and borehole collapse is a key issue during the drilling operation. In the present work, both the investigation method and the finite element model that used for investigating borehole collapse in hydratebearing sediment are developed, and the superiority of the investigation method developed herein is also analyzed. The results show that changes in temperature and/or pore pressure do not necessarily lead to the hydrate dissociation. Hydrate dissociation occurs only when both temperature and pore pressure satisfy the conditions of hydrate dissociation. Moreover, the applicability of the investigation method developed herein is verified by comparing the equivalent plastic strains obtained by the coupled model developed in this paper and the simplified model respectively. In addition, the simplified model overestimates the extent of the wellbore collapse for the drilling operation in hydrate-bearing sediments. All these results demonstrate that both the investigation method and the finite element model can be used for borehole stability simulation in hydrate-bearing sediments. ：Launch and recovery equipment is the necessary equipment to realize the safe, reliable and accurate launch and recovery for seafloor drill. Reliability analysis for key component of launch and recovery equipment under the random irregular wave environment is the basis of designing safe and reliable launch and recovery equipment. A new reliability analysis method for evaluating dynamic response characteristics of key component of the launch and recovery equipment is presented, and the reliability of the key component of the launch and recovery equipment is calculated under different variation coefficient. The research resultsshow that the tension of the piston rod of hydraulic cylinder appeared an irregular dynamic response under irregular wave, and the mean value of the tension of the piston rod of hydraulic cylinder is enhanced along with the increase of the flip angle of the launch and recovery equipment. A reliability of 0.999 126 is calculated when the variation coefficient is 0.3. The results of sea trial verify the correctness of the theoretical analysis and the random numerical simulation method. The technical support is provided for designing a safe, reliable and accurate launch and recovery equipment.
