Drone assisted device to device cooperative communication for critical environments

Abstract: This paper proposes drone assisted device-to-device cooperative communication (DA-DDCC) for critical situations during post-disaster management. The proposed network utilizes the autonomous mode of D2D communication for setting up the link in the absence of a central node. This network incorporates cooperative communication using drone in D2D session for improving reliability of the overall system. A probability-based statistical channel model for such networks is proposed by taking the statistical independenc… Show more

“…The authors in [11] proposed a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) based cooperative communication system assisted by a single UAV where UAV acts as an aerial relay between two ground nodes. In [12], a single UAV deployment is studied by varying the height of the UAV to provide a connection between two ground nodes during post-disaster management. The work in [13] solved the cooperative throughput maximization problem for a single UAV relay by the SWIPT method and harvesting energy from the received radio signal.…”

“…It is paramount in marine operations, where the safety concerns connected with maintenance and inspection chores are substantial. Drones may greatly reduce or even eliminate dangers associated with manual inspections, such as those in tanks or tight areas, where workers may be exposed to toxic gases or at risk of injury from falls [14].…”

“…Probability-based assignment of A2G links is considered in [20] for drone based CC by considering height independent path loss exponent as well as Rician factor. The above studies considered only fixed A2G channel (Rayleigh or Rician) assignment model between drone and GUs.…”
