“…This species originated in South East Asia, but in 2008, it was detected simultaneously in the USA, Italy, and Spain (Rota-Stabelli et al, 2013). Since then, it has been detected in several regions like Hawaii, North America, Europe, Central America, South America, and Africa (Rota-Stabelli et al, 2013;CABI, 2022). Adults of this species are 2-3 mm long with red eyes, pale brown or yellowishbrown thorax, and black transverse stripes on the abdomen (CABI, 2022).…”

“…It was first detected in the continental United States in 2008 in California and quickly spread to other states (Bolda 2008, Walsh et al 2011, Johnson and O'Neill 2013. In 2022, it was present in all states but Arizona and Nevada, as well as many provinces in Canada (Stacconi 2022). The pest status of D. suzukii stems from its ability to develop in underripe fruit that is still on the plant.…”

“…The high dispersal potential of this pest is partly due to global trade, since infested fruits appear intact and healthy and are consequently shipped worldwide (Cini et al, 2012). In addition, recent mark and recapture experiments indicate that once established, D. suzukii shows an exceptional dispersal ability by flying over relatively long distances (up to 9 kilometers within a few weeks) (Tait et al, 2018) Drosophila suzukii is now recorded in more than 34 countries, infesting a wide range of commercial fruit crops (CABI, 2020). To date, the insect has already caused huge economic losses.…”
