“…For instance, despite the effectiveness of amoxicillin/CA in the treatment against pathogenic bacteria with resistance to β-lactam antibiotics, it is also considered one of the most frequently associated drugs with drug injury; however, further studies are required to analyze drug integration between amoxicillin/CA and concomitant potential hepatotoxic drugs [23,24,25]. Additionally, some drug eruption to CA has been reported, e.g., a patient developed a drug eruption on the day following amoxicillin and CA administration, which was considered a delayed hypersensitivity reaction [26]. These negative effects on human health should eventually be considered for future research.…”

“…For example, addition of clavulanic acid to amoxicillin has been shown to increase the risk of drug-induced liver injury . Many hypersensitivity reactions are mediated by the amoxicillin component of the drug combination; however, we have demonstrated that certain patients develop clavulanic acid-specific reactions. , Clavulanic acid-hypersensitive subjects tolerate other β-lactam antibiotics, including amoxicillin, presumably because of the formation of distinct antigenic determinants. Very little is known about the cellular mechanisms of β-lactamase inhibitor hypersensitivity reactions and T-cell crossreactivity between different β-lactamases inhibitors.…”

“…Clavulanic acid was initially considered as nonimmunogenic when first marketed in combination with amoxicillin . However, it has recently been reported to contribute to the hypersensitivity reactions in patients receiving amoxicillin-clavulanic acid. Additionally, selective IgE- and T-cell-mediated reactions to clavulanic acid, with tolerance to amoxicillin, have been reported. Piperacillin-responsive T-cells are commonly detected in piperacillin-tazobactam hypersensitive patients; however, in rare cases, tazobactam-specific peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) activation has been detected (unpublished data). Based on the structure of the β-lactamase inhibitors, it is assumed that the risk for crossreactivity to β-lactam antibiotics would be rare .…”

“…Amoxicillin yielded negative results; however, after a cumulative dose of 16 mg of amoxicillin–clavulanate, she developed urticaria, conjunctivitis, throat swelling, and hypotension. A 46-year-old woman developed erythematous macules and papules over her abdomen within 24 h of receiving amoxicillin–clavulanate [27]. Upon allergy testing, she had a positive skin-prick test to amoxicillin–clavulanate but not amoxicillin alone.…”
