DSP Based Adjustable Closed-Loop DC Motor Speed Control System

Abstract: This paper deals with real time DC motor speed control, using the low-cost new generation TMS320LF2812 digital signal processor (DSP). An optimal control algorithm which can be realized through event manager (EV) module of the DSP is proposed. According to the error signal DSP processor will change the duty cycle of the PWM (which can be named mark-space ratio). The comparison between two signals (reference and actual speed) in addition to the PWM technique are included in a C++ language program. Code composer… Show more

“…The DC motor starts its rotation at armature voltage of 1 Volt approximately as can be seen in Figs. (6,7,8), then the speed follows the voltage linearly. An approximately equal counter EMF must be generated for every voltage which is applied externally to the motor.…”

“…The uses of digital signal processors (DSPs) such as TMS320F28335 and TMS320F2812 from Texas instrument (TI) have permitted the increasingly stringent performance requirements and fast, efficient, and accurate control of servomotor and motion control systems. DSPs are currently used for a wide range of control applications and communications [7]. Fuzzy logic and proportionalintegral-derivative (PID) controllers are compared to controlling the position of direct current (DC) motors done by [8].…”
