Dual-Band and Polarization-Flexible Cavity Antenna Based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide

Abstract: In this letter, a novel dual-band and polarization-flexible substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity antenna is proposed. The SIW cavity used for the antenna is excited by a conventional TE 120 mode for its first resonance. With the intervention of the slot, a second resonance excited by a modified-TE 120 mode is also generated thereby providing a broadside radiation pattern at two resonant frequencies. In addition, the proposed antenna has two orthogonal feeding lines. Therefore, it is possible to provide … Show more

“…A C‐shaped slot on a TE 120 mode resonating cavity, loaded with diodes to change the polarization states, is presented by Hu et al (). Similarly, an annular slot on a TE 120 resonating cavity, configured to have different polarization states, is presented by Lee et al (). Furthermore, aperture‐coupled circular cavities, exciting rectangular patches, are presented by Park et al ().…”

“…Another factor is some reflections near the antenna mounting on the mast, especially when measuring the radiation pattern in the E plane. For completeness of our work, a comparison between the proposed antenna and some recent dualband compact size antennas [30][31][32][33][34][35][36] is summarized in Table 1. It is worth to mention that the antenna size comparison is based on the radiator size.…”

“…In recent years, an emerging and favorable candidate for implementation of waveguide‐based circuits in planar form is SIW 8,9 . Several dual‐band antennas have been developed with SIW technology because of its low‐cost fabrication, light weight, and compact size 10‐13 . In Reference 10, SIW rectangular or circular cavity have been used to implement cavity‐backed antennas to widen the bandwidth and enhances the antenna gain.…”
