In this study, a novel metamaterial inspired compact cylindrical conformal dual‐band antenna with a shunt fractal inductor and bottom patch is proposed. The conformal antenna consists of three meander lines type unit cells of composite right/left‐handed metamaterials for modification and compactness. To improve the operating bandwidth in the first band i.e at 2.45 GHz, a shunt fractal inductor with large inductance is proposed. A similar patch with a slot along the bottom side is additionally used for better impedance matching. The second band at 3.5 GHz is obtained due to the loading of two meander line unit cells on the patch as parasitic elements. The proposed conformal antenna is placed on a 15 mm radius cylinder whose equivalent planar dimension is 0.48λg × 0.36λg (where λg is the guided wavelength). Asymmetrical coplanar waveguide feed is implemented. Measurement results showed that the proposed cylindrical conformal antenna achieves a wideband −10 dB fractional bandwidth of 44.5% and a gain of 1.26 dBi at the operating frequency of 2.45 GHz and 4.5% of bandwidth and a gain of 2.2 dBi at the 3.5 GHz. The radiation efficiency is 70 and 86% at the said frequencies respectively. There is good agreement between measured and simulation data.

In this letter, a novel wideband circularly polarized (CP) monopole antenna (CPMA) with modified characteristics is proposed. The CPMA comprises a rectangular ground with an L‐shaped strip, an inverted L‐shaped monopole, and an asymmetric U‐shaped strip as a parasitic element. Note that the proposed CPMA is fed by a coaxial probe instead of the traditional microstrip feed. The L‐shaped strip in the rectangular‐ground and parasitic asymmetric U‐shaped strip are used simultaneously to excite multiple CP resonant modes, which increase the CPMA's CP bandwidth. Both the simulated and measured results validate the proposed design. The proposed CPMA features a −10‐dB impedance bandwidth ranging from 2.06 to 4.05 GHz (65.1% centered at 3.055 GHz), and a wide 3‐dB axial ratio bandwidth ranging from 1.78 to 4.44 GHz (85.5% centered at 3.11 GHz), which has a potential application in the satellite digital audio radio service system.

In this article, a modified circular shape printed dipole structure is studied to achieve wide bandwidth and dual-band circular polarization (CP) behavior along with dual polarizations. The idea behind this structure is that asymmetric geometry can give rise to circular polarization with an optimized position of coaxial probe feed. The circular patches on both sides of the substrate are altered with elliptical slots at an optimized location in association with opening slots. With these alterations the impedance bandwidth for S 11 < −10 dB is ranging from 2.36-7.34 GHz (4.98 GHz) which is nearly 102.5% about mid-point frequency 4.85 GHz. The antenna resonates at a lower band (1.55 GHz) and shows linear polarization (LP) operation at that band whereas dual CP bands with dual senses are obtained at higher frequency ranges 4.00-4.60 GHz and 6.07-7.13 GHz respectively with 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 13.7% and 16.6%. The simulated and measured experimental results are in close agreement. This antenna is suitable to be used for navigation purposes, radar communication, and wireless communication (especially wireless avionics intra communications) in S and C bands, respectively.
