Dual band circularly polarized truncated patch antenna for RFID reader and WiMAX applications

Abstract: Novel asymmetric cross slotted truncated patch antenna is proposed for circular polarized radiation for UHF RFID reader and WiMAX applications. Proximity feed technique is adopted for the reduction of spurious radiation and improvement of bandwidth The antenna consists of two microstrip patches with asymmetric cross slots fed with a microstrip line in the same plane of the patches. An arrow shaped cross slot on the ground plane is employed for coupling power to the radiating patches. The effects of truncating … Show more

“…In [2], a coplanar slot antenna with circular polarization fed by a guided wave and intended for navigation and wireless systems operating in the range of 2.2-5.2 GHz is proposed. Another type of antenna with circular polarization for wireless systems, specifically RFID and WiMAX systems is presented in [3]. Namely, an antenna array is proposed, consisting of two truncated patch antennas with an additional slot.…”

“…Namely, an antenna array is proposed, consisting of two truncated patch antennas with an additional slot. It has been shown in [3] that this type of microstrip antenna exhibits an expanding frequency range and reducing the standing wave ratio. The modified truncated patch antenna, or the antenna truncated only at one side, instead of the two opposite sides, is presented in [4].…”

“…The structure of microstrip patch antenna consists of a thin metallic patch on the one side of a substrate and the other side of a substrate there is a plane metallic ground [3]. This development and usage of communication devices opened large interest in small antenna and its miniaturization techniques [4] [5]. From technical point of view, antenna is an important part of these handheld devices that are used for communication purpose [6].…”

“…Other techniques are also combined with the truncated patch with the aim of improving its AR bandwidth. Some of these techniques include using meandered strips [3], [4], loading slots into the patch [5], [6], and using stacked element [7,8,9]. In [9], a stacked patch antenna which consists of a parasitic patch, a radiating patch, and a microstrip line is proposed for wide impedance and AR bandwidths.…”
