Dual-Band Frequency Selective Surface With Miniaturized Element in Low Frequencies

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, we propose a dual-band frequency selective surface (FSS) in low frequencies with miniaturized element. A dualconcentric square element with two different slot sizes is constructed to realize dual-band passband responses. Each passband is realized by a square slot structure. Besides, we reduce the slot sizes to make the element miniature and compact. Based on this technique, a dualband FSS with miniaturized element in low frequencies is designed. Both the simulation and experiment result… Show more

“…The design of frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) has attracted an increased interest over the last years, thanks to their multiple applications in different communication systems. [1][2][3][4] Lightweight, low profile, and simple FSS structures are typically required for satellite communication applications, which can be obtained using multiresonant FSS elements. The property of stability under large incidence angles becomes an essential requirement.…”

“…In recent years, the FSS with simple shape and closely spaced multi-band resonance of miniaturized size and stable response becomes a research hotspot because of the increasing demands on multi-functionality of antennas and filters for both commercial and military applications [7,8]. Dual [9,10,11,12,13,14], triple [15,16,17] and wideband [18,19] FSSs can be used for communication filtering, absorbing or electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. However, few can be applied to the passband with wide stopband [20,21].…”

“…New geometries such as convoluted ring slots, fractal, multipoles, and patches or their complementary structures have been proposed, where the size of unit cell was shrunk to [7], [8]. Miniaturized FSS was proposed comprising of a periodic array of a dual-concentric square element with reduced size slots printed on one side of a dielectric substrate, and an inductive grid printed on the other side [9]. The combination of the capacitance of the patch array and inductance of the wire mesh results in a parallel LC combination, which acts as a first-order bandpass filter at the resonant frequency of the structure.…”
