Dual Connectivity-Aided Proactive Handover and Resource Reservation for Mobile Users

Abstract: Dual connectivity has been regarded as an effective mechanism for mobility management to reduce the handover latency and improve transmission reliability. In this paper, we investigate a dual connectivity-aided proactive mobility management scheme for mobile users requesting realtime service with minimum data rate requirements. The proactive mobility management consists of a predictive resource reservation scheme and a proactive handover scheme. The predictive resource reservation scheme is optimized to improv… Show more

“…Subsequently, learning-based approaches have exploited various ML techniques to optimise the operations of highfrequency networks. In the interest of maintaining seamless connectivity and fulfilling the required QoS for mobile users, the work in [13] presents a proactive mobility management scheme. This work comprises a resource reservation and prediction scheme, which uses neural network (NN) to predict the average channel quality and the connected BSs for each real-time user, hence reserving the required resources and guaranteeing the users' QoS requirements.…”

“…Moreover, for the latter case, there have been studies that explore the use of MR-DC as an alternative to the legacy HO. In these studies, the authors state that MR-DC can reduce the HO failure probability, signaling exchange with the CN, the HO computational complexity, and HO completion delay [21]- [25]. Furthermore, these studies consider that before the HO, the UE already had CP connectivity via both BSs, i.e., the split bearer is configured in the MN and SN.…”

“…Most of the relevant research studies in MR-DC such as [3], [14]- [25] have proposed, on the one hand, methods to aggregate data considering that the UE is static and no failures occur. On the other hand, studies have proposed methods to provide mobility robustness.…”
