The spread of E-learning accelerated exponentially during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, teaching science requires more attention than other subjects because it contains more practical activities and hands-on experiences. This study examines science teachers' perception of using E-learning platforms in teaching 8th-grade science during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Twenty science teachers from 12 private schools participated in this study. The participants' perspectives were ascertained by a researcher-developed survey and a follow-up personal interview. To reinforce the data gathered from the survey, nine science teachers participated in an open-ended interview. The demographic variables used were gender, age, and years of experience. The results revealed that most teachers have positive perceptions towards E-learning. Furthermore, female teachers showed superiority over male teachers in embracing E-learning platforms. Moreover, younger teachers with fewer years of experience had more positive perceptions of using E-learning platforms than older teachers with more experience. However, most science teachers still do not consider E-learning a complete alternative to traditional classroom teaching. Based on the findings, this study proposes that schools increase their investment in and utilisation of E-learning platforms to enhance education and promote independent learning among students. Abstract. Our study aims at obtaining ePub accessibility for all, including screen reader users. Since an ePub document is made up of several (X)HTML files, we analysed and worked with those (X)HTML tags that affect the blind user's experience in the reading. As a case study we developed an "enriched" ePub book which applies technical solutions (i.e. tags and attributes) with the purpose to overcome the accessibility and usability issues observed when interacting via screen reader. In this work we present the results collected through an online survey conducted with 25 users to evaluate the "enriched" ePub compared with the original PDF format in terms of accessibility and usability. Positive responses about the proposed solutions emerged from the survey: the easy access to the table of content, to the images, to the text and also the ease of navigation. In short, 88 % of the users preferred the ePub format instead of the PDF. This confirms that quite simple technical solutions can really improve the reading experience for not only visually impaired people. The results from the survey also showed accessibility issues and limitations of the screen readers and eBook reader software which still exist.

Abstract. The design of a user interface usable by blind people sets specific usability requirements that are unnecessary for sighted users. These requirements focus on task adequacy, dimensional trade-off, behaviour equivalence, semantic loss avoidance and device-independency. Consequently, the development of human-computer interfaces (HCI) that are based on task, domain, dialog, presentation, platform and user models has to be modified to take into account these requirements. This paper presents a user interface model for blind people, which incorporates these usability requirements into the above HCI models. A framework implementing the model has been developed and implemented in an electronic speaking bilingual software environment for blind or visually impaired people and in an educational system for children with special educational needs.
