Dual-Purpose Photometric-Conductivity Detector for Simultaneous and Sequential Measurements in Flow Analysis

Abstract: This work presents a new dual-purpose detector for photometric and conductivity measurements in flow-based analysis. The photometric detector is a paired emitter–detector diode (PEDD) device, whilst the conductivity detection employs a capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detector (C4D). The flow-through detection cell is a rectangular acrylic block (ca. 2 × 2 × 1.5 cm) with cylindrical channels in Z-configuration. For the PEDD detector, the LED light source and detector are installed inside the acryl… Show more

“…They are made of several semiconductor materials, allowing the designer to control the emission wavelength [25]. LEDs are commonly used as light sources in many low cost systems due its advantages in terms of life cycle, exceptional colour range, low radiated heat as well as low power consumption [26]. In terms of colorimetric reagent, phenol red is used to produce colorimetric effect that associated with pH variation.…”

“…One more modification of the flow manifold that aimed to improve the detection capability is shown in [ 17 ]. This work presents a dual detector that consisted of a paired emitter–detector diode (PEDD) and a capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detector (C4D) for flow-based photometric and conductivity measurements, respectively.…”
