Several different polymers were chromatographed with binary developers on silica. The solvent strength of compositions leading to Rf ≈ 0.7 agrees fairly well with conclusions from adsorption theory. It is assumed that, in adsorption chromatography, migration of polymers depends on a definite balance of adsorption power. Macromolecules migrating in adsorption TLC are attached to the adsorbent by a few groups only. The conformation is not changed to such an extent as in the case of static adsorption.
